The pandemic has put detained migrants and detention center staff in an especially precarious situation.  Grossman Young interns Arryonna Santos and Maryanne Koussa detail the severity of the COVID-19 situation for those detained and working in these controversial environments. At one center in Arizona, half of all employees have tested positive and the staff shortage is leading to inhumane living conditions for migrants on top of the already heightened risk of contracting the virus. Deceptive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies have also been determined responsible for worsening the spread of the virus globally, as it deported immigrants who had been detained in these high-risk environments.
