Where Can I Get A US Visa Now?
As you may know, the US has instituted COVID-related travel bans prohibiting the entry of travelers who have been in certain countries during the two-week period prior to their entry to the US. Although this is technically a travel ban and not a visa issuance ban, in practice the US embassies in those countries have not been issuing visas. Banned countries include:
- EUROPE: Schengen/ UK/ Ireland
- ASIA: India, China, Iran
- AFRICA: South Africa
- AMERICA: Brazil
In addition to embassy closures in the banned countries, many other US embassies around the world are currently closed or not issuing visas.
Grossman Young & Hammond has compiled the charts below, based on information published by the US Department of State, to help you understand where in the world you can get a US visa right now. The charts are sorted by published wait times for a visa interview (from shortest to longest number of days). The first chart shows the wait times for F1 student and J1 exchange visitor visas, which are given priority, and the second chart shows the wait times for all other nonimmigrant visas (except B visas for visitors).
